Apologies for this short diary, but I just wanted to add a note of encouragement to everyone voting today. My eldest daughter had no idea about this election. Like a lot of kids she's not plugged in. I got her to vote in the last general, but midterms just aren't on her radar.
So I called her and laid it all out about why this election was so important, about the Senate threat, about all the things she holds dear: minimum wage, student loans, the ACA...etc. I told her it was all on the line. She got so pumped and excited she called her boyfriend and told him he HAD to vote. As a waiter in a restaurant working his way through school, his livelihood depended on it.
Guess what he did? He called his friends, and so and so forth.
Then there's my other daughter who still lives at home. She's even more out of touch with mid-term elections than her sister. I gave her the same speech, and she responded with, "Guess I'll be calling into work today. I'll have to be late." So she's going to vote too. My son isn't old enough to cast his vote, but he will be casting mine. I'm taking him with me to the polls so he can get used to it. I do it every year. I take him into the booth and I let him press the buttons. I'm training him.
And there you have it. If you have anyone who is registered, but out of touch, BUG THEM. Give them a ride. Call them on the phone.
DO ANY AND EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO GET THEM TO THE POLLS!
