Yesterday was nuts for me due to the revelation that the HHS Dept.--either intentionally or accidentally--overstated both the August and October QHP (qualified health plan) enrollment figures by around 300,000 (in August) and 380,000 (in September).
As Joan's front-page diary explains, HHS claimed 7.3 million as of 8/15 and 7.1 million as of 10/15.
It turns out that 380,000 of those were actually dental plans, not healthcare plans (which ironically means that the incorrect August number "should" have been closer to 7.4 million, but let's not even go there).
I'm not going to re-post my entire response here; suffice to say I was pretty pissed off when I heard about this...especially since at the time I had correctly projected the August number to be around...7.0 million and the October number to be between 6.8 - 7.0 million.
I adjusted both of my estimates at the time in light of what I thought was "correct" information from HHS. I was actually very happy to be "wrong", of course, since the "real" numbers were better than what I thought they were.
Anyway, here's my full response, and my follow-up posts on the subject:
Dear HHS: Your numbers are perfectly fine, so stop jerking me around.
The 2014 Graph, REVISED with CORRECT QHP Figures
A few points regarding "Obama Dentata"
Hey Republicans, before you get too smug about "Obama Dentata", you might want to remember...
My 2015 QHP Projection still stands at 12.0M Total, 10.6M Paid
Feel free to comment/attack away, but I'm swamped with my day job today so probably won't be able to respond until this afternoon.
