In a concession to the CIA, the committee allowed the cover names used by CIA operatives involved in the practices to be redacted from the final report, citing concerns for their safety. The report's publication comes just weeks before Democrats will cede control of the U.S. Senate to Republicans. The GOP withdrew its support for the inquiry in 2009, saying that the investigation was pointless, as former intelligence officials would refuse to cooperate with any probe that might result in them facing prosecution.

An interim report by a joint legislative committee looking into the September 2013 George Washington Bridge access lane closures has been completed, and will be made public following a hearing in Trenton on Monday, the panel's co-chairman said. State Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) said the report, compiled by the committtee's special counsel, Reid Schar, would be made available to members of the Legislative Select Committee on Investigation on Thursday. Wisniewski declined to discuss specifics of the report, or even to say whether he had read it.

In 2013, the United States conducted 438,421 deportations.2 In more than 363, 2793 of those deportations—approximately 83 percent—the individuals did not have a hearing, never saw an immigration judge, and were deported through cursory administrative processes where the same presiding immigration officer acted as the prosecutor, judge, and jailor. Some of those expelled without a hearing had lived in the United States for many years, have U.S. citizen children, and were never afforded the opportunity to say goodbye to relatives or call an attorney before being wrenched from their lives rooted in American communities. Some of those deported were fleeing violence, persecution, or torture and were turned back to danger. Others had lawful status in the United States, including U.S. citizenship, but were erroneously deported.
