About a week ago, a communications director for a congresscritter made some smarmy remarks about President Obama's daughters. Social media picked up her words and slammed her hard enough to cause her to resign (or was "allowed" to resign). It took just a few days, and that woman was gone. While her words were ugly, I'd like to think Malia and Sasha merely brushed off their shoulders, and forgot about it. They should have, anyway, as they are lovely young women.
I'm not particularly happy about this outcome, as I'm never happy about someone losing a job. The woman probably shouldn't have been in communications, as she seems to be lacking the necessary finesse for that occupation. But the sin doesn't seem to rise to the level of firing.
And then there's Officer Pantaleo, the primary murderer of Eric Garner. Mayor de Blasio came out and made a serious statement about how these incidents shouldn't be happening. I heard at least one person on tv say it was one of his strongest statements ever. His appointed police commissioner, Bill Bratton, agreed with Mayor de Blasio. So, if Officer Pantaleo (who already has cost the City a few bucks for his bad behavior) has used a maneuver banned by the NYPD, why haven't his bosses fired him (or allowed him to resign)? Certainly being the proximate cause in the death of another human being should be cause for dismissal, right?
I've been watching a bunch of stored programs on DVR this weekend. On one of the shows it showed pictures from the video. It's easier to see what's happening when there's no movement. That bastard not only choked Mr. Garner for a very long time, but once he was on the ground, he put his hands on Mr. Garner's head, and then raised his butt so he could get maximum leverage in smashing Mr. Garner's head into the pavement. That happened when there were already several other officers at different parts of Mr. Garner's body. It served no purpose other than to expose the evil cruelty within that man. I mean, we're talking about selling cigarettes!! And it's not even clear Mr. Garner was selling cigarettes when Officer Pantaleo murdered him.
If it takes social media to accomplish anything these days, please go add to #FirePantaleo on Twitter. I don't do Facebook, but however it's done, will someone please get it going there. Strong statements from de Blasio and Bratton don't seem to be the answer. That bastard needs to find another kind of work. He unsuited for police work. Maybe the City has an opening working in the sewers, where he'd only have to deal with rats. And maybe a little poop.
