Some things resonate so strongly with me that the only way I can get it out of my system is to sit down and draw it out. Sometimes I'm channeling my joy... as with this cover I did for The Nation magazine on the election and inauguration of Barack Obama...

Those were such joyous times filled with supreme optimism. I wanted everyone who paved the way to that moment to be part of the celebration.
A lot of time has passed since that hopeful period, and while we've had some great moments to celebrate: economic recovery (of sorts), passage of healthcare reform, (such as it is), gay marriage rulings, creation of the Consumer Protection Bureau (thanks Elizabeth Warren!), all the way to a much more sane policy on Cuba... we've also had a stunning reminder of why we must always remain vigilant...
