I remember this years ago with the Taliban in Afghanistan, and here we have it again as a publicity piece by ISIS: the wholesale destruction of antiquities in the archeological museum of Mosul.
This made me sick to my stomach. It makes me ask so many questions.
We have spent billions of dollars in Iraq and the region. Would it have been too much to safeguard the precious works of a millenial culture?
The American military and allies must have known that the occupation of Mosul was imminent. Was there no way to send in UNESCO in any time before this to find proper protection for the museum's collection?
The CNN journalists' comments on a "glut" in the market for such antiquities makes me hope that at least it is being monitored, and that the assholes paying for stolen works that are going to fund more terrorism will at some point be recognized and punished.
I don't know how to put my rage into words right now.
