I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I wanted to mention that Rep. Bill Foster (IL-11) has decided against a senate run and will support Rep. Tammy Duckworth in her 2016 bid to unseat Illinois Republican Mark Kirk.
Foster will serve as co-chairman of Duckworth's campaign finance committee.
He was quoted as saying that he recognized that a primary run would be costly and "unnecessary" in his words.
"(Duckworth) has proven time and again — on the battlefield and in the halls of Congress — that she is dedicated to serving our country, and in particular the people of the great state of Illinois," Foster said.
It's not a particularly surprising turn of events. Foster's avuncular, low key style would be a harder sell in a Senate race, and Democrats want Kirk out.
Foster is a physicist and a businessman. He won a special election in spring 2008, turning long-red IL-14 blue; it had previously been represented by Dennis Hastert. Foster won the seat again that fall, but lost in 2010 to Republican Randy Hultgren. He ran again in 2012 and won the newly redrawn IL-11.
