I'm not a very good writer, I like my politicians to work with members of the other party, and I cringe at the thought of being called a liberal. I've only ever voted for politicians representing the Democratic party and assume that will continue unless HRC gets the nomination and I end up writing in my three year old daughter for President. She's running on a popsicle and cotton candy platform. Her running mate will be her 18 month old brother, Rainbow Dash for SEC DEF, Dora for SEC of State, I'll be the Ambassador to Hawaii.
Anyway...
When it comes to news stories I feel like I am a good reader. I'm a bit of a contrarian and enjoy a good argument. Sometimes I do it for sport but sometimes the door is left open and I have no choice. For the people who like to ascertain information about posters by reviewing past statements and diaries, have at it. I think it's probably one of the more stupid ways to get to know someone but I believe that is just the way people are in this internet age. I'd swear everyone thinks they are Carnac or something.
Enough blathering and on to my observation...
I feel there is an issue with some of the writing I'm seeing on this site. I don't want to get the boot so I don't think I can call any one specific person out but in my seven years of being here I'm seeing something that doesn't reflect what I am used to.
Not all the time, but enough for me to post my first diary in about 18 months.
Technically I shouldn't really be here but I'm emotional sometimes and a hypocrite.
When I read stories about stuff and thangs I like to have some level of substance behind it. Especially if it is about a serious subject. I don't watch the news for that specific reason, a lot of innuendos and hypothetical questions without much digging in to what is really going on. My mind is full of enough crap to question without having to piece another persons puzzle together even if they are doing it for the sake of passing on information.
I think it is important to maintain a certain level of "high browness" when writing for this space because it is paid attention to. I think it is important for some of our more prolific writers to really get to the nuts and bolts of an issue than to simply let the reader do most of the legwork. I think it is important to have ideas sorted out prior to putting them in to the public sphere especially if it could be looked at as a representation of the site as a whole.
I want to be clear that it's not all the time. The vast majority of the writing here is top shelf, by all parties. I'm just making this observation as someone who has been around for a long time. That observation being that I am noticing a slightly more frequent number of highly visible diaries that probably wouldn't make it under normal circumstances.
I'm not asking for a change. I bounce in and out of the place with some irregularity. Currently I am in but I feel like it has provided some outside perspective. The voices are certainly more diverse and the subjects are relevant which is engaging and a good thing, but I don't think quality should be sacrificed for the sake of those two things and volume.
TGIF, I'm praying for a robust DNC field. My daughter is a wonderful person but she's not ready for the Oval Office.
