The leader of the FEC has mostly given up hope of reining in abuse that may occur in the upcoming 2016 campaign, which may generate a whopping 10 billion for the "buy your way into office" spending binges brought on by citizens united.
“The likelihood of the laws being enforced is slim,” Ann M. Ravel, the chairwoman, said in an interview. “I never want to give up, but I’m not under any illusions. People think the F.E.C. is dysfunctional. It’s worse than dysfunctional.”
The current committee was setup with three Republicans and three Democrats which was done to assure that the committee was fair but instead has become a mini version of congressional gridlock, with violator caseloads plummeting as a result.
One hilarious example of this gridlock occurred over the menu of the committee’s 40th anniversary. Republicans and Democrats fought over whether they should serve bagels or doughnuts. In a rare bi-partisan move they agreed to serve both.
So let it be written, that the America Oligarchy rose to Power as the old Democracy burned and the ones that were given the task of protecting freedom and Democracy argued about whether bagels or dough-nuts should be served at the collapse.
