The Guardian, an English newspaper, is all over this case:
http://www.theguardian.com/...
Meanwhile, my local paper in Carroll County, Maryland (where Rice lives, the Carroll County Times) and in Baltimore (where Rice works as a cop, the Baltimore Sun) have been greatly derelict in duty. I wrote to them over the weekend about their failure to cover the Brian Rice story, and of course I got no response.
It's amazing that Rice's police supervisors knew of this misconduct and kept him in duty. But it's also instructive that they had a police LIEUTENANT riding bicycle patrol in a dangerous neighborhood. (Can any people with police experience confirm that?)
I don't have time or steam for an elaborate parsing of the article. But it's worth bringing to everybody's attention. This very gripping story keeps unfolding.
I encourage everybody to read that incredible article. The Guardian got copies of police reports on Rice that are sealed to the public. He has an INCREDIBLE long record of offenses. And he's the guy who started the killing of Freddie Gray.
I want to see him sentenced to at least 10 years in prison.
At the same time, the cops and the RW authoritarians are ferociously denouncing the attendance of Marilyn Mosby, the heroic prosecutor, at Prince's wonderful benefit concert over the weekend, where he debuted his new song "Baltimore," an outcry against police brutality.
This story will grow and grow. I hope it causes some positive change.
