The video linked is courtesy of Brian Tyler Cohen who as many of you may know is doing a huge amount of amazing work. There is a YouTube video that is linked below, but the gist of it is a man named Bob thanked President Biden for lowering the cost of insulin to $35 which makes a huge difference for him. President Biden showed he understood and told him that starting in 2025 all medications combined for individual seniors won't cumulatively cost more than $2,000 a year. Bob told him what a difference that would make for him because he now pays $5,000 a year for his medications and said, "We love you, Mr. President!" And President Biden said, "God love you!" I have the full transcript below.

And the comments on the video are heartwarming. I suspect the replies to the popular comments are by trolls or MAGA Trumpers. However, the original comments are all very supportive and they are recommended." .

Somebody derailed this diary, but the attack upon President Biden's character is disgusting. Extremist views in which the holders of said views believe that if you disagree with them, then you are a terrible person do not allow for nuance and the complexity of the situation.

Why did the UK abstain, and the US veto the statehood resolution?
.
In explaining the U.S. veto, Wood said there are “unresolved questions” on whether Palestine meets the criteria to be considered a state. He pointed to Hamas still exerting power and influence in the Gaza Strip, which is a key part of the state envisioned by the Palestinians.
U.S. deputy ambassador Robert Wood told the Security Council that the veto “does not reflect opposition to Palestinian statehood but instead is an acknowledgment that it will only come from direct negotiations between the parties.”. [there were] two abstentions, from the United Kingdom and Switzerland.U.S. deputy ambassador Robert Wood told the Security Council that the veto “does not reflect opposition to Palestinian statehood but instead is an acknowledgment that it will only come from direct negotiations between the parties.”
Wood stressed that the U.S. commitment to a two-state solution, where Israel and Palestine live side-by-side in peace, is the only path for security for both sides and for Israel to establish relations with all its Arab neighbors, including Saudi Arabia.
“The United States is committed to intensifying its engagement with the Palestinians and the rest of the region, not only to address the current crisis in Gaza, but to advance a political settlement that will create a path to Palestinian statehood and membership in the United Nations,” he said.
.
The US supports Palestinian statehood, but Hamas has largely controlled Gaza and a requirement for statehood in the United Nations is to be a peace-loving state. Right now, those conditions don't exist. Yes, Israel has been attacking Hamas in Gaza. That was a response to the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7th. Hamas' goal is the elimination of Israel, not simply Palestinian statehood and a better standard of living. I say all this as somebody who does not believe that there is a military solution to this situation.

Biden warns Israel to protect civilians, aid workers in Gaza or risk losing U.S. support
.
.
Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State: If we don't see the changes that we need to see, there will be changes in our own policy.
The White House readout, but also U.S. officials who I have been talking to tell me that the president was — quote — "very direct" with the prime minister.
And the president said that following that killing of the World Central Kitchen aid workers — you see the car that they were traveling in — following the three cars that they were traveling in were hit by Israeli munitions, Biden said Israel had to, one, better protect aid workers, two, better protect civilians, and, three, reduce humanitarian suffering.
And this is a quote from that White House readout — quote — "President Biden made clear that U.S. policy with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel's immediate action on those three steps.
-
Antony Blinken:
Right now, there is no higher priority in Gaza than protecting civilians, surging humanitarian assistance, and ensuring the security of those who provide it. Israel must meet this moment.
.
After six million Jewish people were barbarically tortured and murdered in the Holocaust, in 1947 the United Nations established the modern state of Israel. The Middle East is both volatile and important. Therefore, we needed an ally in the region. Any such important ally needed to meet several criteria: (1) be a democracy (2) support diversity and pluralism (3) the majority of the population in the nation should support the United States. Three is important because even autocrats would have a hard time supporting the United States when their population detests the United States. The United States was an important ally for Israel long before Bibi Netanyahu became prime minister of Israel.
.
Upon winning the 1967 war, Israel illegally took two regions to use as buffers to protect themselves from all of their many enemies in the Middle East. When they did that, they, in my view, obligated themselves to create a relatively good standard of living for the people who live there. They did not. In addition, there is no doubt that Prime Minister Netanyahu is a bad person.
.
1. President Biden said that Israel should avoid making the mistakes we made after September 11th.
2. President Biden privately told Prime Minister Netanyahu to not take actions that would lead to mass Palestinian civilians casualties.
.
3. President Biden had military advisors point out to Prime Minister Netanyahu that they are creating more enemies than they are killing.
.
4. President Biden pushed Prime Minister Netanyahu to allow aid into Gaza.
.
5. President Biden and Vice President Harris called for a ceasefire.
.
6. President Biden had bank accounts related to the illegal settlements seized.
.
7. President Biden had aid parachuted in to Gaza.
.
8. President Biden ordered a temporary pier constructed.
.
9. President Biden had the US Ambassador to the United Nations put forward a resolution calling for a ceasefire.
.
10. President Biden had the US Ambassador to the United Nations abstain instead of vetoing a resolution calling for a ceasefire put forward in the United Nations. He would have had the resolution supported if the resolution had criticized Hamas since Hamas committed the terrorist attack and since Hamas is using the Palestinian civilians as human shields.
.
11. President Biden and his administration warned Prime Minister Netanyahu to not invade Rafah.
.
12. President Biden had a frank conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu and told him that he needed to limit Palestinian civilian casualties and to aid workers.
.
If President Biden supported genocide, then he would not have taken these actions.
