Manny Miranda is in charge of conservative opposition to Judge Sonia Sotomayor, was last seen
stealing files from Senate Democratic servers in 2004.
He isn't just a thief, however. He's also a ... I don't even know what to call this:
“Hispanic polls, Hispanic surveys, indicate that Hispanics think just like everyone else. We’re not like African-Americans. We think just like everybody else. When I was on the leader’s staff, someone called me once and asked me: ‘What’s Senator Frist’s Hispanic agenda?’ I said, ‘low taxes, better education, more jobs ... what are you talking about?’ And that’s how Hispanics are. This is an opportunity to educate them on all of our issues and they will resonate in the way that they resonate with everyone else.”
It's true, African Americans are stronger Democratic partisans, but Latinos are also stronger Democrats than whites (as our weekly polling clearly indicates). Also, in our poll on investigating the Bush Administration, Latinos were more like African Americans than whites. Same with our poll asking people their opinions of various personalities like Oprah, Colbert, Ted Kennedy, George Bush, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly. Take Cuban Americans out of the mix, and Latinos look even more like African Americans.
Interestingly, in our poll of American sentiments toward France, Europe, San Francisco, and New York, there wasn't much difference between the races. So at least when it comes to right-wing boogeyman geography, we're all the same. Group hug!
So I'm not exactly sure what the heck Manny Miranda is talking about.
But hey, check this out again:
When I was on the leader’s staff, someone called me once and asked me: ‘What’s Senator Frist’s Hispanic agenda?’ I said, ‘low taxes, better education, more jobs ... what are you talking about?' And that’s how Hispanics are."
That's the advice he gave the Senate majority leader? Really? Ahh, that explains this:
Hispanic respondents only
Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party?
Favorable 13
Unfavorable 79
Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the Democratic Party?
Favorable 56
Unfavorable 31
Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Congressional Republicans?
Favorable 3
Unfavorable 79
Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Congressional Democrats?
Favorable 42
Unfavorable 42
So not only was Manny Miranda a thief, but he gave Senate Republicans disastrously bad advice, projecting his own wingnutty agenda onto an entire ethnic demographic. Which, given he's a Republican, naturally meant a promotion.
