I suspect there's a lot of "could of" and "should have" going on this morning in the Obama camp. I hope so. The debate last night was a debacle for the American people. First, Romney lied through his teeth the entire evening. Second, he presented, as fact, that his position on so-and-so was thus-and-so when, in fact, he had either never before articulated that position, or it countermanded what he had previously said through-out the campaign. It would have taken Obama hours to point out Romney's lies, and there was't time for that. Further, as other's have said, it would have looked whiny. We can only hope the media does some thorough fact-checking and points out what Romney did.
What, in my opinion, Obama should have done is use Romney's own words against him and forgotten this $Billion or those $Billions, or this or that nuance. When the moderator asked about what differences are there in your economic policies, or how you think the government should work, Obama should have said his policies and views actually address the 47% Romney doesn't care about...that he cares that the part of that 47% that pay no taxes because of loopholes for the wealthy ought to pay their fair share, and the part that doesn't pay because they can't should be helped, not abandoned.
And so on....many opportunities were lost last night. Could have...should have.
Romney was like a giant lying marshmallow last night. You can't flatten a marshmallow by punching it...it just pops back. The way to win is to put a sharp stick in it and roast it over a fire...until it flames up, burns, and shrinks to a pile of ash.
Let's hope Obama get's out the sharp stick of truth, and roasts Romney. It's what Romney deserves... and what must be done.
