My wonderful partner last Saturday was running on a wet sidewalk attempting to flag down one of the local Seattle buses. Tripped and fell and landed on the left side.
The x-ray above is a normal left shoulder. I got to see the real x-ray. Now imagine the left ball in the picture above is gone.. there a a sliver of bone the the right and one just under where the straight part is. That is what the real x-ray looks like. The slivers of bone are where the rotator cuff tendon and the upper tendon are still attached to. There might be a chance that the ball snapped off and is behind the rest of the humerus, but the surgeon doesn’t think so.
So the worst case is that this is a total replacement of the shoulder. They will need to clear out the exploded bone fragments out of the area before they jump into the replacement. Next is that the ball snapped but there is not enough to start pinning it together, partial shoulder replacement. Best case, snapped and there is enough to do the pinning.
To the wonderful DKos community, I need intersession with the Universe/God or what ever higher power you know for my partner’s surgery to be the best outcome it could be.
Thank You,
DBA
Update!!
Well in all of the confusion, exhaustion, work, etc. I didn’t read the pre-op instructions fully. So we got a delay on the start of 2 hrs. But that turned out for the best, as the case before ours was overly complicated and the surgeon is running late. Good for us and good for the person ahead who needed the extra time and care. So our wheel back time will be about 7 Pacific and about 3.5 to 4 hrs to do.
