John Tesar, a Bourdain contemporary, Top Chef contestant, and owner of some highly acclaimed restaurants in Texas has responded to a John Fugelsang suggested boycott of Maine. He orders hundreds of thousands of dollars in seafood from Maine and has decided to shift his purchases to other New England states. There’s an article about it in the local Press Herald.
A lot of local New Englanders are talking about foregoing trips to some local large outlet malls. L.L. Bean is headquartered there. I think Lobstergram is as well.
A well timed, targeted boycott is not a bad idea. If it draws the attention of the voters in Maine, and they can blame Collins immediately, and Trump ultimately for economic troubles I say it’s all to the long term good. I’m not a big fan of piling troubles on innocent bystanders, but I am a huge fan of opening people’s eyes.
Update: Consensus seems to be that this is a bad idea. There is another idea out there making a bigger and more positive splash. It’s the movement to fund Colllins’ potential opponent in 2020 started by the Maine People’s Alliance. This has definitely gotten Collins attention. You can donate here.
