It was just a theory, not a troll. I don't read the Free Republic. Don't know who Dick Morris is, and find it kind of weird that so many of my comments were hidden. I'm not the most articulate person, but hey.
To be honest, in a way I'd like to see Bush not win in November. It'd be nice to have a fresh start. How about if Bush loses, I won't complain about it, if everyone else stops bringing up the election mess of 2000.
Not that I think that it should have gone to the Supreme Court at all. I think a better system is needed, so that people know that they will be able to vote when they get to the polls. Since that was one of the complaints at various polling stations. I have voted at the same place for over 10 years and have never had a problem ( well okay this year the ledger was out of order so it took a little longer to find my name ).
I think that ( and this is just a freeform flow of info here ) 90 days before an election, you have to return a postcard to the election board. This says that 1) I still live in the district. or 2) I am in the district now, please add me to the rolls. The problem is how do you make sure everyone gets a postcard? I think that using Tax returns and driver license's should cover the majority of people.
Sixty days before the election, if a card has not been returned, send another. Then when the election comes, only allow those that were verified to vote, in addition, if a voter shows up with ID and a postcard, they can vote too. If someone does slip thru the cracks, issue a provisional ballot for the national election ( since every voter would be eligble to vote for President) and like now, within three days only count the local/state part of the ballot if residence is verified for the district.
It seems a bit labor intensive and is a little rough around the edges but after 3 election cycles, or so voters being turned away should be greatly reduced.
Comments welcome.
