Caught this little gem on Fox News channel (of course) doing some channel surfing moments ago. There's a group out there called "
Progress for America". As you can well imagine, they represent anything but.
The commercial that got my attention can currently be found on the home page of
their site. David Beamer, father of United 93 passenger Todd Beamer, appears in the ad. Here is the text of the ad:
On 9/11, our son Todd Beamer, was killed in action on United 93.
Todd was one of the passengers and crew who fought back on 9/11 and saved our Capitol from being destroyed.
Al-Qaeda killed 3000 Americans on 9/11 and will do anything to destroy us, and our way of life.
Todd and United 93 fought back.
We continue this fight in Iraq today.
This enemy must be destroyed, in Iraq, and wherever we find them.
There can be no retreat in this war.
Did you catch that? "Al-Qaeda killed 3000 Americans on 9/11... We continue this fight in Iraq today." Further conflating of 9/11 and Iraq on Fox News. Granted, it's just a spot they're airing, but it's a very receptive audience. Of particular note: there is no mention of Afghanistan. Is it any wonder that
almost one third of Americans believe Saddam was involved in 9/11?
This is blatantly deceptive and dishonest. If "Progress for America" really feels that the war in Iraq is worth it, they should argue that position based on its merits. By airing this ad Fox News and PfA are dishonoring the people that were lost on that tragic day in September of 2001. Using that tragedy to promote the horrible war in Iraq is wrong. Fox News should do the right thing and stop airing the ad. PfA should be ashamed of themselves. Dispicable!
