I did a search on this and couldn't find anything, if someone has already diaried it, let me know and I'll delete this.
So we see all kinds of former West Point graduates all over the tube as analysts, writers in mags and newspapers using their WP degree as a form of legitmacy to write/pontificate on the war and all matters military. West Point doesn't seem to have a problem with it. If you found an anti-war group and use West Point in the name, apparently they have a problem with
that.
A former graduate/Vietnam war vet has formed an organization to protest the Iraq war and WP is not amused. The US Army is alleging a trademark violation-apparently they trademarked the words West Point in 2000. So the matter is settled correct? Well apparently the words "West Point" are still being used all over the country and the academy didn't seem to have a problem with it:
As for barbers and florists who use the name for their businesses, at least three interviewed Thursday said they've never been contacted by the Army, and were unaware the name was a trademark.
"I'm 73 years old, I've been here 50 years and they've never bothered me," said Bill Carlton, owner of the West Point Barber Shop in West Point, Va. "As far as I know, anybody who wants to open (a business) can go ahead and grab (the name)."
Apparently it's ok to use the name as long as you don't try to form a prominent anti-war group made up of WP alumni.
