Here in the Badger State, most Kosites are too busy laughing at Tommy Thompson's quixotic campaign to pay much attention to any of the other GOP clowns who are running around the state talking in a "serious way" about Iraq. But this morning it was hard to miss the latest adoring Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article featuring Rep. Paul Ryan, who just returned from his latest "fact finding" mission to Iraq. His musings appeared on the front page, and it offers more of the same delusionary babble that comes out of the mouths of most Republicans these days.
U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan returned Thursday from a trip to Iraq, expressing support for the new U.S. strategy and buildup there but warning that "it is our last chance to get this right" before going to "Plan B" and starting to withdraw troops.
"This whole thing is a big gamble, but it's probably the best gamble to take before throwing in the towel and allowing sectarian genocide to take over," said Ryan, who was visiting Iraq for the first time. "I personally give this three to six months to find out."

In the article, Ryan laments the planning and execution of the war, and says the trip gave him a better appreciation of the "colossal mistakes" that the U.S. made after the invasion of Iraq. Funny how he didn't mention the mistakes made BEFORE the war--he just doesn't want to go there. Ryan is seen by many Republicans as a rising young star, and there has even been some talk of him running for President one day.
I remember how gung-ho Ryan was when we invaded. After reading this article, it struck me how he is dodging and weaving on Iraq: It MIGHT work, but maybe the surge is not big enough; mistakes were made, but maybe now it can work. No skin off his ass--he's not being shot at. So I'll give Ryan his Friedman Unit (F.U.)--if things aren't appreciably better by July 4, I will send him a letter EVERY DAY reminding him of his words. Because words have consequences, and people should be careful what they say.
