This little slip of the tongue by our Secretary of State shows how far back this Administration's foreign policies are and what the mindset of the people in charge happens to be. Secretary Rice is an expert in the foreign policy that was relevant 15 years ago.
Has someone just turned back the clock to the Soviet era of world affairs? I guess Dr Rice is trying to do everything she can to stay overseas and away from Chairman Waxman's Oversight Committee.
New York Times
"The idea that somehow 10 interceptors and a few radars in Eastern Europe are going to threaten the Soviet strategic deterrent is purely ludicrous and everybody knows it," she told reporters before the NATO talks and a side meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
That was my own text boldfacing.
Calling out another country for its foreign policy, whether wise or not, is never a good idea in the realm of diplomacy. Just look at how a little phrase like the "Axis of Evil" has come back to bite us in the ass. Are these people really thinking before they let fly all these quotes to reporters?
But this anachronistic thinking in foreign policy shouldn't be any kind of surprise with people who are living in the second Watergate era of unitary Executive power. Doesn't it just all come together nicely when you regard these wannabe public servants as partisan to a fault.
