I just cannot stop giggling. The GOP, terrified at another scandal involving sex, gay sex, unceremoniously cut Larry Craig off at the knees when he announced he'd plead guilty to a misdemeanor involving an airport bathroom, a wide stance, toe tapping and finger wiggling.
Till now, I'd thought the most disgusting part of the entire story, and what proved his guilt to me, was knowing he'd supposedly been taking a crap, and didn't flush the toilet!
The GOP cut him off because as things stand now, the wingnut base of the party is already unhappy with them, what with a president with abysmal numbers, a failing war effort, no good wingnut candidates, and scandal after scandal involving Congressmen. So there they were, patting themselves on the back for getting Craig to resign (they must have missed the word intent), but Craig just upped the ante.
He lawyered up to fight his guilty plea and the ethics investigation, he got Arlen Specter to speak up for him, and now all hell is breaking loose in the GOP.
Mitch McConnell must be gagging:
On Tuesday, McConnell dismissed reporters’ questions about Craig’s arrest in a Minneapolis airport bathroom and his subsequent guilty plea, saying: "I think the episode is over. We’ll have a new senator from Idaho at some point in the next month or so, and we’re going to move on.’’
Today, McConnell acknowledged what the world had recently come to learn. Craig has hired a high-powered legal team to try to get the case against him thrown out. And he’s not going to leave the Senate easily.
I can't help but laugh at the total disarray in their party. Why do I think Arlen Specter is enjoying poking a stick at the wingnut side of the party for abasing him when he was head of the Judiciary Committee? What will the GOP do if Craig does get the charges dismissed? What could the ethics committee possibly do to get Craig out of the Senate?
No matter what, this story is not going away for days. All the GOP's work was for naught. Get the popcorn ready. This is going to be a good'un.
