For the last several years a sorta "friend" from high school and I have had an email relationship, which changes from family news and updates to things political each election year. 2002, 2004, 2006 brought the usual far-right crap emails my way from her (a religious Fundamentalist), and I had asked her in 2006 to stop sending them. She pretty much complied (some basic, mildly annoying stuff came my way here and there) till after Obama sewed up the Democratic nomination.
I've received the ANWR email, the Nancy Pelosi wants to tax all your money email, etc. (See www.snopes.com/politics...I've seen them all from her!). Finally, on Sunday night she sent me the email below: "The more things change..."
What follows that original email is my (annoyed) response to that email, her response to that, and my (on draft as of now, unsent) email back. Should I send it?
Original email ("The more things change, the more they remain the same"):

If there's one thing dumber than selling your soul to Satan, it's selling your soul to a liberal Marxist.
The liberal left along with the First Lady of Pantsuits told us all that they wanted to return the country to the ways of the '60s. It's about to happen.
Look at the supporters that have endorsed Barack H. Obama. I know that we are not suppose to speak the name Hussein. I suggest that the H should be known as Hippie.

The moonbat lefties are trying to "recreate '68", Obama and his supporters have already gone off and done just that! Chicago '68 will be Denver '08.
I'm sure today's "activist" kids won't just raise a ruckus, make nuisances of themselves, act like idiots, embarrass the nation, fail to produce anything worthwhile, and then age and degenerate into sold-out, materialistic, childish, narcissistic fools. Nope.
Not this time, right? Old hippies meet the new hippies that become old hippies. There is nothing more pathetic than an aging wrinkled radical still living in the '60s.
Abbie Hoffman is dead. William Kunsler is dead. The '60s are dead. Get over it. Get a transfusion. Get a walker. Buy a condo in Florida. Just get in your Volvo or Lexus that you purchased even though you are against capitalism, and just go away.
Don't forget to pick up Jimmah Carter along the way and take him with you.
Barry Obama: The preferred candidate of Hamas, Students for a Democratic Society, and Weather Underground. If he throws them under the bus, will they blow it up?
As a young adult of the '60s I had a very different view of Easy Rider when it came out, I cheered for the rednecks. Gee, does that mean that back then I liked my guns and my religion? Change? I don't need no change. I look back now and today I see much change in my attitude then from now. Maybe I could stand some change, but not the type that the "new hippie" wants for this country and me.
Since Obama wants to appear to be moving to the center, It's time to call him up on the Marxist agenda's of his friends. Is Obama gonna be a Marxist in office or a "free" person? Is he"changing" his Che t-shirt for a Chevy t-shirt? (snip...to try to comply...)

My response to the above email:
I know you've told me that you don't think "all Democrats" are horrible demons, but when you send me stuff like this, especially knowing that I am a Democrat, active in local Democratic politics, I really can't believe you. I actually am a bit offended that you feel it is OK to send this stuff to me; I don't pass on emails bashing Bush and his criminal administration, and all the criminal Republicans in office who have aided and abetted his trashing of our country, it's treasury, our Constitution, and our good name in the world arena. I am exhausted with the Republicans after the last 7 years and 7 months, and not in too good a mood to find the email below "charming" or funny. I just can't get to that point and I guess you should stop sending emails like this to me in the future...Thanks!

Her response to the above:
Hi Diane,
This wasn't meant to be a personal offense to you. It is a commentary on Obama, not all the Democrats. He is running for the highest office in the land. And people need to know where he has been, who he has associated with, and who endorses him. It doesn't have anything to do with the present administration. Bush isn't and can't run for office again (I'm sure you are saying "Thank God! for that!") McCain is not Bush. I don't agree with everything Bush has said or done. I don't agree with everything McCain has said or done. But this article is not about McCain nor Bush. It simply shows the positions and endorsements for Obama. Obama is running on a "change" platform. But what "change" is he really talking about? Most people don't know, nor do they know much about him. And anyone running for president is a candidate for scrutiny. So, why be offended by those who scrutinize Obama? It's not slander to state the facts of who a person is associatedwith, or has been, or who endorses him. Nor is it slander to show what is obvious to some of us--that Obama wants to turn back the clock to the politics of the hippies of the '60's. I didn't agree with those politics then. And I don't agree with them now. The author of this commentary is saying that he has changed from those politics. Good for him. If you prefer to not have me send anything political, that's fine. I'll respect your position. I just hope you are open to seeing the bigger picture--bigger than hating the present administration.
So, tonight I've finally mustered up a response that I hope is strong, but non-confrontational, enough to send. What do you think?
You know what? Your note to me is disheartening...I can tell the difference between an "article" and a silly propaganda-laden editorial (or even letter to the editor...). It is disheartening that you are taking baloney negative Republican talking points about Obama and calling them "facts" and urging me to be open-minded about them. Actually, that part is laughable! What is laughable also? All of this:
"If there's one thing dumber than selling your soul to Satan, it's selling your soul to a liberal Marxist.
The liberal left along with the First Lady of Pantsuits told us all that they wanted to return the country to the ways of the '60s. It's about to happen.

And etc., etc. All of that stupid email, that is similar to all of the other stupid anti-Democratic emails you send me. You take negative Republican talking points that are basically stupid lies or perversions of the truth, and call them facts (!) and expect me to give this stuff any attention at all. I can't believe that a smart person like you believes this stuff, and you use it to make politcal decisions. So some "bad guys" "endorse" Obama...OH NO!!!! HE WILL MAKE A HORRIBLE PRESIDENT!!!! HE IS WORSE THAN MCCAIN!!!! Hahahaha! That thinking is silly and disingenuous. Obama doesn't seek out these stupid endorsements, and doesn't stand by them. Besides...What's so bad about the ACLU? Or the League of Conservation Voters? Or the League of Women Voters? Or Chuck Hagel? Or the myriad of other, serious, honorable endorsers? To cherry pick some off-the-wall stupidheads to make a point is laughable. And totally Republican in its application.
Sorry. You guys have an inferior candidate who is inheriting a terrible political situation, and all the Republicans can do is lie about Democrats and Obama over and over and hope that some of it sticks and the 28% of Americans still loyal to Bush will vote to keep the Neocons in office. No. The Democrats are not responsible for high gas prices. No. The Democrats do NOT want to return to the '60's. No. The Democrats are not all hippies and scofflaws, out to steal your money and turn your kids bad.
I am one of those "moonbat lefties" railed about in that email, and I can tell you for sure: Obama and Hillary have NEVER given any indication that they want '08 to be ANYthing like '68. I pay attention to politics MUCH more attentively than most people, and that entire email (and all of the others you insist on sending to me) is a load of crap. Insulting, stupid, and aimed at low-information, neocon voters to keep them in line. I'm telling you...This year it WON'T work, to keep Democrats from getting control of the White House, Senate and House. Maybe the 28%ers will believe that the Republicans can govern correctly and better than the Democrats, but the rest of us WON'T. Republicans have had almost 8 years to do their thing, and they have failed. Horribly. And catastrophically.
Yes. Your emails to me ARE about the Democrats, and by extension, ME. Sorry. You know who I am, what I believe, how I feel. And you insist on sending me inflammatory anti-Democratic crap. Baloney negative talking point OPINIONS about Obama and the Democratic Party have NOTHING to do with scrutiny, and EVERYTHING to do with propaganda intending to frighten people into voting against their own interests, and FOR the corrupt Republicans. I would just hope that you would be open to seeing the bigger picture, and not be manipulated by these stupid anti-Obama/Democratic talking points. How you got to this point baffles me. At the very least, you should have respected my beliefs enough to have stopped with these crazy emails after the 2006 election, when we had this very same conversation.
