Hi Everyone. We were able to get a chance to catch our collective breaths. We also want to take the opportunity to send our warmest "thanks" to each member of the Kossack community for the love and support you have shown our wonderful pootie. As you are all aware, the past few days have been stressful.
Last week, we were sure that Blackie would not make it. Her prognosis was poor. To everyone who has lost a pet, you know how devastating this is. Adding to our anxiety was the self-doubt that we had. We questioned ourselves as to whether this was the right decision to bring her home where she could recuperate surrounded by love and in her familiar surroundings. We hoped that it was.
The main worry for us was that the chyle fluid would continue to flow into her lungs and that it would not slow down.
Follow Blackie on her journey.
For those of you who are new to her fight for health, her story begins here and here. This was the first time I had seen my husband cry. He, like me, did not want to lose her. We both wanted to do everything that we could in her recovery. We would fight along her side to make sure she pulled through.
We took Blackie to the vet yesterday morning. Since we did not have to take her in over the weekend for a chest tap we were feeling a bit more optimistic about her chances. We were very happy to know that while she needed another tap, two important things happened. The first was that even though she needed another tap, the vet could hear her lung sounds which indicated there was less fluid. The other is that when the chest tap was done, the amount of fluid removed was 100 mls. The fact that she was able to pass sixty five hours without a tap and the amount had lessened significantly gave us more reason to hope.
Blackie is also eating more. Her appetitie continues to improve. She ate three-quarters of a can of the Hill's Prescription Diet a/d. Our vet calls it "cat crack". She may be right as Blackie can't get enough of it. She was eating some of the other cat's food and my husband continues to feed her kitty treats. As the vet said yesterday, "What the heck, it's the holidays." Last night, I noticed she was laying on the floor, on her back, purring like crazy.
We rang in the New Year with Blackie. Sort of. We were asleep and the fireworks outside woke us up at midnight. To our pleasant surprise, Blackie was laying on top of me as if to wish us "Happy New Year". We continue remain hopeful in that the sutures inside are closing and that the amount of fluid will continue to decrease.
To those of you who have sent your support and love for Blackie, we can't begin to tell you how much this has meant to all of us. With the support of Kossack community she will recover. We wanted to include a picture of Blackie that we took yesterday afternoon.
Again, we thank everyone so much for their love, healing mojo, candles, mediations, prayers and support.
Happy New Year!
Blackie and her parents.
P.S. We forgot one thing. Ekaterin made the card from Blackie for us to use. We want to acknowledge this and give credit where it is due.
