John McCain this morning suspended his campaign for the second time announcing that he is "desperately needed in Greenland to help solve Global Warming."
Senator McCain canceled all his public appearances for Wednesday and will fly out to Greenland to broker and agreement between the warming atmosphere and the receding glaciers, and called on Obama to do the same. "My friends, the situation is too dire for us to have another debate, now is the time for action, and I urge Barack Obama to join me in suspending the campaign in order to convince the glaciers to stop melting."
Stanley Salzman, a well known climatologist worried that McCain's decision might actually harm the situation. "The problem here is not a matter of consensus between glaciers and the atmosphere, but one of increasing temperatures, and Senator McCain bringing more hot air to Greenland can't help the situation."
Senator Obama insisted that the debate should continue, "I believe the situation is dire, and I think the American people should be given the opportunity to hear the candidates debate the issue rather than suspending our campaigns and denying the American people the opportunity to hear what the candidates have to say on this topic."
But not everyone was so critical of the decision, said Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, "This is the type of bravery we've come to expect from John McCain, the American people understand that and if Obama doesn't join Senator McCain in suspending the campaigns in order to solve global warming I think it will begin to reflect in the poll numbers."
No word yet from Greenland on whether the ice caps are responding to McCain's visit.
