At tonight's White House Correspondents' Dinner, President Obama made a joke about how he and long-time advisor once talked on the phone years ago and said what so many partners are saying today: "Let's go to Iowa and make it official."
President Obama, until you repeal DADT, DOMA, and come out in support of gay marriage, you don't get make gay marriage and gay people the butt of the joke.
Yes, it's early in the administration, and I, unlike some of my gay bros and sisses, am willing to give him more time.
But I don't have to listen to a joke--at the expense of my right to marry--by a president who has chosen to not act yet on any those gay rights issues.
And I am going to be a diva about what you can't say in the comments:
- Do not tell me to get a sense of humor. I'm gay. It came with the toaster.
- Do not tell me he doesn't mean it. Gay marriage jokes are off the table until Obama gets behind it. Period.
- Do not tell me this is as meaningless as his Special Olympics quip on The Tonight Show. That wasn't meaningless--and he apologized for it. And Special Olympics ain't something he can do something about--gay rights is.
I'll post video when I find it.
