Don't know if you have noticed that the price of gas is slowly going up again now that OPEC has cut production down to the point where the prices are forced upwards. We were down to the forties per barrel for a short time when the economy was crashing (because oil hit $150 per barrel perhaps?), and the price per barrel has been slowly creeping up ever since. The commodity pundits are now watching and think if oil goes above $62.65 per barrel, there may be no stopping it again...and production is still cut, so that makes sense.
If oil hitting $150 can help destroy world economies and force whole countries to starve once, looks like it may happen again if we don't stop it fast. We must stop being hostage to the oil barons of the world, but that will take some doing. In the meantime, what we can do is to cut back on our gas consumption fast and hard NOW to keep those prices down. I don't want all of Obama's work on fixing the economy to go to waste because some damn sheik wants more solid gold bathroom fixtures.
Could we all, please, make it a goal in the coming weeks to skip one outing, to combine errands into a single trip, to carpool one day a week, to ride the bus or train whenever we can, to share driving our kids to events with our neighbors, to walk down to the store for that gallon of milk...anything to stop another disastrous oil price rise before it can even begin.
Yeah, yeah, we all care when we put $5.00 gas into the car, but this time...this time...let's stop the rip-off before it begins. Driving a little less right now will not be as harmful to the economy as $5 gas will be in a few months.
