Wonkipedia (beta) is available for perusal by the dKos community.
In a recent diary:
DailyKos needs a wonk preserve
I suggested that we might try to find solutions to the chronic dKos problem that crucial, yet minority-interest, diaries discussing issues-related policy tend to sink abruptly out of sight, buried by the passions of the day, frustrating the possibility of sustained discussion leading to policy consensus and ultimately political action.
In the diary, various solutions were brought forward, providing me with motivation to attempt implementation.
A new series of pages in dKosopedia called Wonkipedia are the result.
Details below the fold:
Wonkipedia Main Page (Beta)
A central collection point for issues-oriented diaries from DailyKos.
Mission:
* Provide easy access to past and present dKos diaries on specific policy issues.
* Support discussion of those issues by providing an historical context.
* Promote inter-diary dialog with a focus on specific issues by making it easy for diarists to see and comment on each others' diaries.
* Encourage development of policy consensus leading to political action by dKos members based on issues diary discussions.
What Wonkipedia is not:
* Not a reference source of fact on the issues - this is covered by dKosopedia's regular articles and will be cross-linked to support discussion. Wonkipedia's content consists of diaries and metaproducts derived from diaries. Diaries full of well-documented facts germane to the discussion are obviously encouraged.
* Not political per se but more about discussion of the nuts and bolts of making things work. This leads to policy which leads to political action.
I'd appreciate it if people would give me feedback both specific and critical. This is important if Wonkipedia is judged to be a valuable tool by the dKos community and thus worthy of improvement. Or not, as the case may be.
Since the DailyKos readership is rife with experts in all fields, I'd appreciate it if any are moved to take on responsibility for specific tasks. I can be contacted at bmcphail at mac dot com.
As a great contributor to the site is often wont to close,
Peace,
