It's bad enough that yesterday's recommended list had a couple diaries taking swats at cowardly Democrats who won't follow through with long term party goals and pass health care reform. First off, the unions reminded Democrat congressional members where their donations and people-power come from during each and every election in Labor Leader To Blue Dogs: Don't DARE Ask For Support (Video)
by PaulVA http://www.dailykos.com/...
Running a close second in my book was F--- You, Democrats
by Angry Mouse http://www.dailykos.com/... which captured my sentiments exactly. What the hell good is electing Democrats if they won't back the party platform's own goals?
But now, it gets even worse. Now comes before us Representative John Murtha (D?) of Pennsylvannia. Does everyone remember him? Does he remember us? Does John Murtha recall what great praise he drew from the Progressive Community for speaking the truth about the War in Iraq and the conduct of that war?
Nah, I doubt he remembers us at all. Because now he says:
http://www.cnn.com/...
"We're taking some time to make sure it's done right," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania. "I don't know that we'll get something done before January, and even then we may not get it done. We're going to do it right when it's finally done."
(emphasis added)
January? January! And to think that his own president, who happens to be a member of the same political party (right?), thinks they could have "got it right" last month and sure as hell thinks they can get it right in early September.
I'm so sorry to feel this way, but I honestly feel as though far too many Democrats in Congress are cowardly little bastards. And what a mess this is.
Just what does:
"We're going to do it right when it is finally done"
actually mean?
o Does it mean, "We'd like to drain a few more million in contributions from health care denial profit industry" ? ? ?
o Does it mean, "We're going to insure this is written so that my nephew can skim off a good living of whatever money flow is created to wherever we decide to create it" ? ? ?
You know, I could try, try, with great effort, to convince myself that they just mean "build more public support for the public option" which isn't in itself even the solution we need which is Single Payer! But no. It's just too hard.
When presented with a problem, the most obvious answer is most often true: They are little cowardly bastards. I'd like to see Obama take them all out behind the woodshed and tan some Democrat hide, heehaw. I'd like to see Obama go all LBJ on them right now.
I'm so damn mad after reading this, I just cannot sleep. I mean, it is one thing to privately express doubts and discuss political strategy. But when the PRESIDENT is out on the road, trying to create some push-back against the lying out the wazoo Republicans and John Murtha has to come out and say, "Maybe January, maybe not even then." ("And we can probably hose this up and siphon these donations off for another 10 years if we work at it.")
But the story is even worse. It turns out an Obama-voting Democrat is so messed up in the head by all the mini-me Glenn Becks that:
"I believe that there is a health care crisis, I really do," Sonja McDonald, who voted for Obama in 2008, told CNN's Ed Henry on Thursday. "Do I believe that the government needs to be more involved? No!
(emphasis added)
But wait for it folks, just wait for it. Where do you think she said this?
http://www.cnn.com/...
Henry met McDonald at a clinic that gets half its funding from taxpayers.
"The government being involved is fine," McDonald said. "It's just ... when they try and overstep, when they try to say, 'No, this is what needs to be done.' "
(emphasis added)
Meanwhile, Murtha (D?) is still out there trying to 'get it right' by undercutting President Obama:
The White House, and many Democrats in Congress, hope that by building support in the West, the president can start to turn the tide. Though the region is largely Republican, Obama made some inroads in the latest election. He won in Colorado and lost by just a slim margin in Montana.
However, Murtha's comments in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania, to CNN affiliate WJPA signaled continuing divisions among House Democrats over the scope and pace of health care legislation.
"We said to the speaker [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi], the leadership, let's not rush this thing," Murtha said. "Let's do it right, so we'll have a uniquely American plan, if the thing passes."
Note: I'm recovering from surgery. I have years of experience with annoyingly lousy insurance companies. I know what it is like to be sick and have to argue with the greedy bastards over the bills and the coverage and the inane bureaucratic trivia they try to use to paper over their murdering spreadsheets.
I'm going to have to take some pain medicine, at which point, I am hoping my blood-pressure subsides enough to allow me to sleep. So, yeah, I won't be here until morning to respond to comments. I apologize in advance.
But look at it this way: I didn't put "Breaking" in the headline, ok?
Seriously, can you BELIEVE the nerve of that guy? What a loser. It is starting to look like the ONLY thing John Murtha got right being in Congress was the Iraq War and that should have been obvious to a whole lot more people.
P.S. If any "advertisement" bugs pop up, I do NOT endorse them within the context of this diary.
UPDATE: So, now the AP (surprise) is describing him as "close ally" of Nancy Pelosi, hinting that even Congressional leadership is not behind the plan:
http://www.bostonherald.com/...
The forum came as a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it’s unlikely that Congress will pass health-care overhaul legislation this year.
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a radio station in western Pennsylvania that Congress is going to "do it right" when it comes to passing health-care legislation. But he says it’s not clear it will get done before January.
(emphasis added)
UPDATE TWO: John Marshall tears into the whole surreality of the 'debate' over at the Huffington Post:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
In an effort to pass a bi-partisan bill with a Republican party that wouldn't give him a glass of water if his tie were on fire, President Obama plans to take a diluted health care plan that was already pre-approved by the insurance industry and eliminate "health" and "care" from it.
