Just something I was musing about today.
I remember my days in Egypt where the work was hard and the lash bit against our skin. Our people moaned parched lips waiting for the drops of water the overseers would promise us for just a little more work. And they called us and beckoned us to do more for the leader. And then one day one had risen up from out of the boat of the bulrushes and had no royal blood or heritage to speak of and he excelled at everything. His voice was like a clear pool of water that made our burnt skin cool and refreshed. He gave us hope that one day this toil would end. That we would have to work for it but that we could do it if we listened and acted in one accord as a people.
The leaders in Egypt first mocked him and his followers thinking all of their hope was in vain for they had always known them to work for the water they promised which was their very taste of freedom. They could not conceive that this dark skinned leader could pull a few from the many and lead them away to a land of their own where water and food were plentiful and the life would be a tad easier because a national divine favor would fall upon them.
After we left and traveld for 40 years lost in the desert one day the great leader came down from his counsel to the people and addressed them as they overlooked the Promised Land. A land they had thought about, dreamed about , hoped and worked for. A land that truly changed their destiny to be great an plentiful. Where children would be able to go to the healers, the poor and sick would be given aid. And the healthy ensured that they would all be cared for. This is truly what they saw when they looked down upon the land they had been promised.
And then the leader spoke, His voice like a thunder from some far off place echoing amongst the numberless tribes sitting to listen to a standing oracle.
The people bent their ears to hear anticipating a joyful explanation how they would all enter into the Land together bring change to their status in the world and bring prosperity to one another. And not based upon the greed of the few as the overseers had wrought against them. In promises but ever making them want but never bringing them down from the Mountain.
What will this man say tomorrow as we stair out upon a playful land that can be better than the desert or Egypt of our past? Will it be Enter in my people together or will it be just a little more work, a little more time, a little more money and we will get their someday.. Just like the overseers promised? Will he praise our work? Will he justify standing in the desert but afraid of losing lower his arms from the fight?? We will lift you up even in defeat oh great leader? But will you stand with us or make us wait in the desert where children die, woman die, old people die and all of us morn for the vision we see we could have but could not enter into?
