Something rather disturbing has been brought to my attention. A Republican co-worker noted that he will never buy an American car "again" (he just traded an American made truck for a Honda). He was not concerned about quality, or at least he did not use that as a reason. He clearly stated that he hated "unions" and "greedy workers" and would not support them by buying an American made automobile. Effectively he made a decision to boycott American made brands for political purposes.
A few days later I heard a similar comment from another Republican acquaintance.
I find this to be rather disturbing, not to mention ill informed, selfish, and unpatriotic. Has anyone seen or heard of this going on at Red State? I am wondering if there is a concerted effort here or if I just happened upon two tea baggers randomly thinking the same way (yeah, I know, thinking tea baggers is rather "oxymoranic").
Anyway, it got me to thinking, that if I were in the market for an auto, I would intentionally counter their ignorant efforts, and buy American in order to make my own statement.
I would not suggest that anyone should make an important or expensive purchase for political reasons, especially one as personal as purchasing an automobile. But am wondering if anyone else has considered buying an American automobile, even if it would be a first such purchase, in order to support our American made automobile industry, and hard working American workers during a recession?
It would sure help the economy, help to validate the decision to use tax payer dollars to get the industry through the recession, and help to defeat unpatriotic and frankly, despicable tea bagger attempts to sink an American Industry.
And given recent consumer reports for many American made cars (the Chevrolet Malibu and Impala, and several Ford and Buick models, to name a few), it seems to me that it would be a dependable and reliable investment. In recent years, some of these models exceeded Japanese brands for the first time in decades.
