This will be short - I'm watching women's hockey, and Canada is rocking. But I want to share. As many of you know, NBC monopolizes American olympics coverage, and this year even northern cities that get CBC won't be able to see the Canadian coverage because CTV won this year's bid over CBC. And CTV wasd bullied by NBC into blocking their streaming video for American IPs (possibly all IPs outside Canada?)
But all hope is not lost! There are a number of ways to get decent Olympic coverage. With Firefox, it's quite easy; there's an addon called FoxyProxy which allows you to use a proxy server seamlessly with Firefox. Detailed step-by-step setup instructions are here. You can either pay to "rent" a Canadian IP or you can search for a free listing online. You might also try a UK IP for BBC coverage, but so far CTV has been excellent.
So you know, there are also web-based proxies; however, you may not be able to get them to work (I wasn't), because they don't seem to deal well with the Flash Player plugin used for streaming video.
Proxies are themselves legal. The legality of bypassing regional restrictions on online media availability from the user end is less clear to me, so if DKos admins want this diary taken down I will happily oblige (or censor it to their satisfaction) - Meteor Blades? But I know lots of Kossacks are rightly frustrated with their available coverage.
