Again I came across this post on the Huffington Post today atributed to Danny Shea: 'Meet The Press' Ratings Burst With Maddow Appearance'!! This is now the second time Rachel has helped MTP ratings surge. After her appearance last week on MTP when she literally destroyed that little youngster Republican House member Rep Shock from Illinois - she called him out over his hypocrisy in taking credit for Budget Stimulus funds in his district when he voted against the bill in Congress. He was VERY visibly embarassed. She also put him in his place about Miranda rights.....so I saw where some diarist afterward last Sunday suggested in a single comment that maybe Rachel should become a permanent host on Meet the Press with David Gregory like George Will is to 'This Week'! I responded to the diarist that I thought it was a fabulous idea! More below the fold.
Here is today's column according to Danny Shea:
"Meet the Press" has benefitted from another Maddow Bump.
The NBC Sunday morning program moderated by David Gregory averaged 4.162 million total viewers for first place. That's the show's highest total viewer delivery since March 22, 2009.
Gregory interviewed Vice President Joe Biden and the roundtable included David Brooks, Rep. Aaron Schock, Harold Ford, and Rachel Maddow.
Maddow's first appearance, in August, brought the show its highest numbers since April. She battled Schock in a particularly memorable clip on this Sunday's episode.
"Meet the Press" beat CBS' "Face the Nation" (3.025 million) by the widest margin since May 17, 2009, and it beat ABC's "This Week" (2.508 million) by the widest margin since December 7, 2008. The 2.508 million total viewers represent ABC's lowest total viewer delivery since August 23, 2009.
I think MTP may have a winning strategy here with her appearances. Rachel Maddow is obviously a RISING NBC/MSNBC STAR and a hot commodity. She's also a Rhodes Scholar and has a PhD. She has been a great radio journalist on the now defunct Air America and now has a great slot on MSNBC. LIke her MTP guest appearances, her reputation for ultra competence is also surging. So why not change things up a bit on Sunday? I am so sick every Sunday of watching all these Sundays shows and all their white males as both hosts and guests. Usually This Week has the most diversity but there have been times even recently when they also have 4 white males sitting around that table looking very unlike America!!!
So I am going on record - let's petition to get Rachel a gig as the permanent guest political analyst on Meet the Press with David Gregory - just like George Will is the permanent political analyst for This Week. If you agree with me why not email Meet the Press and support my idea. Here is the web link where you can suggest this:
