I am literally exhausted! I just basically watched this whole healthcare thing unfold being a political junkie. I feel sorta like just after Obama's election, the next day. This last year I have blogged a helluva lot on dKOS, some Politico, TONS of Twitter, and way too much cable TV - mostly Chris (I know, I know.....), Ed (He grew on me rather nicely), Keith (the daddy of democracy on cable) and dear Rachel - a new solid, progressive, intellectual force on the rational/liberal/democratic side. But tonight Rachel is a little exaperated!! Me TOO!! Where'e the Republican MoJo?? What happened?? It's like the all the hot air just went out of the baloon.......like getting all excited to just to realize, there is no show! I mean we all know the radical teabaggers out there are sending hateful, very unChristian like phone calls to politician's homes and some are resorting to crimes. It appears the shot into Cantors' headquarters however was not one of them. A little more below the fold...
So I watched Obama today in Iowa (AGAIN!!! I can't get enough...and that smile..I know, I know....) But when he said "They say they want to REPEAL it!!" "I SAY.........." (NO! Don't SAY BRING IT ON!! No, not those three words!! NO!!! Don't fall for it!! I know you're off script!)
"I say........GO FOR IT!!!" whew........
But where is the outrage tonight? Where's the endless ammendments into the next mellenia? Where is Boehner's "Over MY DEAD BODY"!!!!??? Where oh where? I mean, this is ridiculous. The Republican end game is very, very surprising. It just evaporated.
Frum gets fired for speaking the truth. My old home state Senator Demint gets his own Waterloo. I think the REPUGS thought they could defeat Obama on Healthcare and SAIL ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ELECTION AND TO VICTORY!!
I just don't think that is going to happen now. I think their plans have really, really, really gone awry. My oh my. Tonight, just before the Easter recess, they appear to have lost their MoJo. Will the teabaggers stay home in the fall now? Will the GOP be as energized as ever (especially when they find out what goodies are in the health care bill for them - especially those unemployed, naive red-staters)? Or will the DEMS reve up to action like Obama now?? Maybe so. Looks like it.
A little hit to don't ask, don't tell today. Financial reform I bet is going to get more teeth when Obama realizes that his new stength (playing the long game, with a lttle bit of last minute procrastination - he and I are a lot like that) really does play well to the American electorate. I think he has his eye on the prize - the economy. But there is actually NOTHING much anyone can do to move this any faster......we are trying to overcome a global near depression....this is not just a correction. This is much, much much more and so much more we don't even realize what the true path out of this is. Nor do we know how long it will really take or whether things will ever be the way they were before. To be certain, our previous growth was all fake. Built on the excesses of capitalism that eventually turned on itself.
Well that's enough. They've lost their MoJo apparently. They will need to regroup. But will they listen to McConnell and Boehner as they have and be so 'lockstep'? I have my suspicions, like Rachel, that they will not play this same tired failing playbook. They will look for another way out of their irrationality.
My 6 month sabbatical ends on Sunday and its back to the university. I wil not be on dKOS as much as I have been, but I feel like being at home, writing two books, and following this healthcare debate so closely has made me incredibly informed. The dkos community is amazing. I know there is a little FDL crowd here but we are supposed to be the real big tent.
I am just amazed tonight. Those crybabbies are quiet. They have lost their MoJo ....what will they do next?
