Rather than complain here as I most often do, I wrote to our President to ask him to prosecute torture.
Mr. President, please direct the Attorney General to investigate and prosecute people in the previous administration who engaged in, promoted and excused the torture of human beings.
I understand that it is difficult to to pursue these people in our current political climate, and it is also very difficult for a sitting President to seek to weaken his own power. However, the acts committed in our beloved nation's name that failed to do anything but further inflame radicals around the world and needlessly harm human beings are unconscionable.
Many prominent Republicans have as much as promised that they will continue to practice torture when they are back in power. It is incumbent upon you as a human being to do what you can to ensure that this does not happen. The power to prevent thee acts in the future lies in your hands. Please make sure that you do not leave office without preventing these vile acts.
Furthermore is has been alleged that your administration has continued to follow some of the illegal and immoral policies of the Bush administration including targeting people for execution without trail (in the recently revealed case the person in question is a U.S. Citizen), and the illegal surveillance of U.S. Citizens.
I implore you to come back to the moral side of the law, and bring the nation with you. We should stand up to those who think torture is acceptable. We should prosecute and punish those who commit torture.
Peace.
