I know, I know, that title is a little over the top. But it was meant to be. First, I am incredibly devastated by the loss of wildlife and this destruction to god's earth. I recently looked at a coastal map of Louisiana and was really amazed at the number of islands offshore. I also had no idea how rich the marsh, lower delta, and vegetation is (or was). It was after being surprised how pristine the Louisiana coast was, that I got this idea? Did Louisianans deserve this? Maybe. More below the fold.
My point here is that the sick/deranged (crooked) oil politics of Louisiana has brought this oil spill tsunami to their coast and just might destroy it. Except for Texas, there probably is no other state in the US more CRAZY FOR OIL.
The state politicians, expecially little Miss Senator Landrieu, that prostitute-hiring family values fraud Senator Vitter, and Governor "Kenneth" Jindal, are symbolic of this problem as they are all in the pocket of BP/Transocean oilmen (and others). The whole state and its politicians SOUGHT, PLANTED, and GOT ADDICTED to this risky off shore oil industry. Further, these red state governors who don't want the federal government (or is it they just don't want anything from Obama?) doing a damn thing for them, NOW surely want the government to actually take over BP (except for that Libertarian laughingstock (Ayn) Rand Paul)!
Louisianans CHOSE big oil OVER the environmental protection of their pristine coast . And by doing this, they have placed the industries and people that use the coast for their livlihood at risk of total destruction. I just heard on the ED Show about this fisherman who has kids in college, a mortgage to pay, and now his fishing business is DEAD and his lodge has NO tourists. He is WIPED out.......It is very, very sad and because of this state's 'hands-off my oil!' politics, there are thousands of coastal residents in the same position as this fisherman. Swept away just like Katrina, but this time swept away by greed. Odds are this fisherman was no environmentalist before. Odds are he thought the oil industry off his coast (with its shitty record of safety and its corporate bully pulpit that allows rich oil men [like rich mining men] to basically buy off the federal oversight), was being picked on by environmentalists and maybe he even subscribed to a "dril, baby, drill" philosophy.
Finally, after that damning 60 Minutes episode last week, are BP/Transocean execs going to be charged with manslaughter? When will they be charged for their criminal negligence in the deaths of those 11 men? I know, I know. There will be an investigattion...but I just wonder if ultimately they will walk too.
Oh my God, I just heard on the NBC news that the oil hole may NEVER be stopped until it empties and that could be for years! Does this mean deep oil driling should be BANNED altogether? God help us. Deliver us from our addiction to oil! Destroy the ocean and earth as we know it, and our civilization, may be permanently altered. Life on the Louisiana coast already is.
