I was motivated to write this diary as again I heard Sarah Palin is calling on FOX News to be the megaphone for GOPers and TeaBaggers (my word of choice). And now Chrstine O'Donnell, who won with an incredibly small percentage of eligible voters in Delaware (why Chris Matthews thinks this minority of a minority is ultra significant is beyond me) first canceled her Face the Nation appearance tomorrow and at least the initial media reports were that she would still appear on Fox News Sunday. Now it appears that is cancelled too since she probably fears the only has-ass semi-tough interviewer on Fox - Chris Wallace. Sharon Angle and Rand Paul, ad nauseam fellow teabaggers, do much the same thing. More below the fold.
On Twitter this morning someone I follow mentioned why are the other media outlets NOT calling out Fox and its corporate company for its funding of GOP candidates and outright alignment with this party? Where the hell is CNN and MSNBC calling out FOX for this? Further, and I diaried about this a couple of years ago here - FOX News is destroying the country and in particular - the south. Being a southerner who now lives in Philly, every time I go home go SC the gym, the bars, the airports, practically every damn place where a TV can be set up is tuned to FOX News. I am heading to my mom's time share in Myrtle Beach next week and I will guarantee you when I go in the gym it will be practically empty (school has begun and only off season travelers are there now) and all 8 TV's will be tuned to sports and FOX. My father believes FOX is 100% true. My mother watches FOX and CNN but she always knows Fox talking points.
During the 2003 GOP convention in NYC I went and protested all Media with FAIR (Fariness for Accuracy in Reporting) but the groups' particular venom was aimed at FOX. Fox has NO counterbalance. MSNBC is not the opposite of FOX. They gives 2 hrs every morning to that egomaniac, ass, Joe Scarborough (I quit watching last year - just hearing him blather and Mika stare, dumbounded and usually speachless, ruined my mornings and made me leave for work usually pisssed); and then they have Dylan Ratigan (who has to blame everyone equally all the time), while during the day they report the news mostly straight-up. They also give Chris Matthews two hours a day to regurgitate the common narrative which is often so moronic and so unoriginal.
I am worried about the growing unchecked influence of FOX. It has ruined the South. Southerners like my partents (who are both smart) are brainwashed. The competing MEDIA is unwilling to marginalize or criticize FOX. Obama and Anita Dunn tried, but they were mocked for being whiners/babies. However, ignoring them just won't work......something must be done to destroy or discredit FOX. WHAT CAN BE DONE DAILY KOS READERS?? Do you see the subversive influence of FOX (like Rasmussen) dangerous or is a brainwashed democracy fine, it remains a democracy nonetheless......
