OK, after a bit of clean up work around here to get me on the ballot I’m ready to tear off and get the job done.
And my opponent must have been dropped on his head as a child - he continues to support drilling for oil in the Great Lakes even after British Petroleum’s disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
Can I get a show of hands from everyone else who thinks this is a dumb idea?
80,000 square miles of fresh water make up the North Coast of America, fully 20% of the fresh liquid water in the world. And it’s pretty clean.
People who’ve never been up here don’t understand just how big things are; they’re not common, but here is a shot of the last tropical storm in the Great Lakes, Hurricane Huron back in 1996. Storms like this will become more common if we drill for oil in our precious fresh water.
Big and beautiful. Some nice black crude oil would show up well against that white sand, eh?
Even with the stuff that is still going on the Gulf of Mexico, even with our own million gallon spill, Mike Rogers sticks to statements he made five years ago - he wants us to drill for oil in the Great Lakes.
I can’t see you but I know you - there are hands up all over America after reading this. And some are displaying the optional upraised middle finger that would get kids in my classes in trouble.
If you can help me get to Congress I will always stand against oil drilling in the Great Lakes.
And I’ll make sure we hold British Petroleum accountable for their mess in the Gulf of Mexico. And help clean up the Minerals Management Service. And get those abandoned wells in the Gulf of Mexico properly capped and monitored.
We have just one planet and it’s the height of foolishness to make a mess this quarter so a corporate person can show another penny’s profit ... while leaving our grandchildren stuck with poisoned land, water, and air.
I want to take quick moment and say thank you to those of you who stuck by me throughout the whole write in adventure. Charles, Sped, StrandedWind, Laffy, Sandi, Karoli, Nicole- you're my family and I couldn't have gotten this far without you. Now we need to take it all the way.
I sat down and did the math today...I can win this seat for $13,000- that's no typo. That's lean and mean and focused but I have every faith it can be done.
I'll leave you with one last thought: Do we really want to be drilling for oil in the Great Lakes?
