Sorry this is so short. there is a face book rant that I want to respond to and i don't quite know the best words, so I'm looking to ya'll for help.
Of course this was a thread about Wisconsin, where most people were expressing outrage over the events of last night. Naturally a right winger came in to filibuster us all with his Fox News talking points. I am not very good a defending my point of view so i tought I would throw it out to you all for some help in formulating a response. If anybody can help I would really appreciate it. Here is the rant in all its glory:
It's not secret that Public Sector Union negotiating has become a joke in the tax payers mind. If the government feels that in order to put the state back on the right direction by changing the laws for negotiating then what is wrong with ...that? Negotiating with unions is never an easy thing and the governor realizes this and in order to make immediate lasting changes he has leveled the playing field.
I'm waiting for the "Rights" taken away argument so I'll pre-emt (sp-1) this by saying, what rights? Granted by a law yes, but not by god. In no way does the change of the situation effect any persons god given rights.
What some people forget about public sector unions is that when it is time to be at the negotiating table, who is fighting for the other side from the Union? Meaning, who is fighting for the tax payer that pays for the negotiated rates that Unions get in the dealings? You would probably argue the lawmaker. But that isn't true. Noone really is on the side of the tax payer in those deals. If they were, the state of Wisconsin wouldn't be paying salary and benefits that are much more than what are paid in the private sector there...
About how the law was just passed last night. Sneaky? Yes. But no different than the procedural non-sense that the Democrats have been doing by not doing their job and showing up for work to vote like they are paid to do. The will of the people is mostly done when it is voting time. If the people didn't like the ideas or Koolaid that the governor or the Senate GOP was bringing to the table, they wouldn't have voted them in last year. So basiclly the ones who hi tailed it out of the state are the ones at fault for any shinanigans that come up.
One of the great things about this country is, that each state can have it's own laws and try out different things. One thing I really hate is when the Federal Government tries to get in the middle of this type of stuff. Wisconsin will give this change a try and see how it works. If it does, people will learn that and hopefully the positive. if it doesn't it will get changed. People have the right to move to another state where things are run better or worse... Its the beauty of our union.
Thanks for your help, i am getting really tired of being filibustered on facebook by PC right wing blowhards.
