Hello kosKids, it is time for another episode of my robo animation series Obama vs. the Tea Party. This is a follow up to last week's video on DeficitMania, where Robo Obama completely destroyed the deficit hysteria that the Tea-Publicans have been pushing lately about the need for massive and immediate spending cuts.
This episode deals with TaxCutMania, which is perhaps an even bigger problem in the upcoming budget battles. We face an uphill struggle to get people to understand just how nonsensical it is to keep spending trillions of dollars to give Tax Cut Welfare for the Rich.
But, enough talk...on with the show...where I explain I mean Robo Obama explains the absurdity of the claim that: "Tax cuts don't cost money, they just let people keep more of their own money."
You would think people would understand by now that tax cuts do not stimulate broad economic growth, just the off shore tax shelters of the uber rich. But we are up against 30 years of Reganomic brainwashing about how tax cuts are somehow better than the inherent evil of government spending, and somehow they magically do not add to the deficit.
I use the word "evil" because I think Republicans have literally convinced many working class and so-called independent voters to see government spending as a fundamentally immoral act, and tax cuts as a virtuous act of charity by our benevolent plutocratic overlords. So, rather than recognizing tax cuts as the irresponsible form of disguised deficit spending that they are, they ignore the fact that tax cuts actually cancel out efforts to cut the deficit, and listen to a contradictory gospel of cutting taxes and cutting the deficit at the same time.
In fact, when Republicans administrations are elected, the public often even condones their profligate and selfish spending binges, while still cleaving to the notion that Republicans are somehow fiscally responsible. Why? First, I think there is the perception that anything Democrats spend money on is wasteful spending on "welfare queens," illegal aliens, or other boogeyman issues. Republican spending, on the other hand, is seen as doing important things, like giving money to defense offense contractors, starting wars, building prisons, bashing immigrants, gays, and people of color, and most importantly, not being a Liberal pussy.
So, even though Republican administrations always spend a lot of money, both on conservative corporate welfare programs and on tax cuts for the rich, the public somehow forgives them. Then, as soon as Democrats are elected, the Republicans convince the public that it is time to go into repentance mode and make up for the sin of spending by cutting any kinds of liberal social spending programs, but, paradoxically, continuing to cut taxes. Since Republicans see spending as literally a "sin," I think tax cuts must be the equivalent of grace, or an indulgence. If you give enough tax cuts to the rich, it allows a certain amount of sinful spending to continue, so long as it is on right wing priorities and attacking ginned up fear of foreign and domestic enemies.
Alright, that is enough pontification from me for today. Please enjoy the video/s, post your comments for me, and do not forget to the click the good old Recommend Diary link at the top right hand side of the page. I admit to being fairly new to the art of animation, but I think these videos have some important content that people need to hear. So, rec it up the list, y'all.
