The Great Crushing of 2009-2011.
It's kinda like the bigger they are the harder they fall. The bigger our expectations are, the more devastating the betrayal.
Please join me over the squiggle for a few thoughts ... and drinks.
We've all been listening to politicians lie forever. We've seen the broken promises when they get elected. We're used to it, we expect it --- we thought.
Except this time. For some reason WE BELIEVED!
When other pols have broken promises, I've been disgusted, but cynically, not really surprised. This time, I'm bitter and angry and hurt! It's not tolerable. I think the reason it is kicking me hard in the gut, is because I actually believed. Instead of voting for the lesser of two evils, I voted FOR what I wanted! A first. I believed a President Obama would change the way business is done in Washington. I believed he would change the corrupt status quo. As you know, the list of doubled down and unchanged goes on. I won't list them.
It's funny how when I heard President Obama say "let us be our brother's keeper and our sister's keeper" in a town hall and again at the Democratic convention, I thought, now there's a socialist I can get behind! :) Did we all hear what we wanted to hear, or did he actually say it.
I wonder if to Obama, it was just politics as usual. Politicians running for president always lay it on thick. Everything the other party and other candidates are doing is wrong and he or she will fix everything. Maybe he thought he was just campaigning as usual, saying what needed to be said, and is shocked that we all believed it!! Hey, he was doing what they always do. It's not his fault we bought it! LOL.
I know an Independent (basically a Republican), who is sooo angry with President Obama, I can barely believe it. Turns out it is mostly because he feels lied to and let down about bringing manufacturing jobs back to America. He believed.
I don't think he needs the manufacturing jobs for work. He wanted it for America's prestige. He wants so bad for America to be great again. He wants to be the best. He can't stand seeing America in decline. Such high hopes he had. I think he voted for a Democrat for the first time when he voted for Obama, and now he feels anger at himself because he was duped and anger at Obama for being the duper.
Yes, he's an older man from a time when America was not in decline. When we went to the moon, and he wants it back! I wonder if Caroline Kennedy helped to persuade him, as she did me. I wonder what she thinks today.
I am crushed, but I am also angry that President Obama has made my friend feel so bad, and that in a way is worse. I can take it. Don't hurt the people I love!
Well, no answers. Just questions from me today. Please join my diary and have a drink.
