This is not my favorite version of this song, just the best I can find online at the moment.

A friend played me that whole album when it first came out some 20 years ago. My favorite version is the second track on this album

At the time, somewhere around 1990, I was blown away with what a great album it was. But I lost track of the name when I came back home from the work I was doing over there until maybe 15 years later. I was watching this movie and during the closing credits the song was playing.

Daniel Lanois does the music for the whole movie and it is quite stirring. The movie is a bit tough to watch, emotionally tough. I went to the closing credits, copied down the name of the artist and album; ran right down to the music store to order it. I was able to get a copy of the 2005 reissue. I think there may be another one by now. I went home and listened to the whole album 2 or 3 times in a row. Within a couple days I was up at the local bar listening to a local band when they played this song. I couldn't have imagined a more fitting completion of the circle.
Daniel Lanois has produced many albums for other artists that are quite famous.

If you don't know this guy, you should.
I am going to post this and go look for more music that I like, by many different artists and of many different styles and post in the comments
