5:25 PM PT: Note, Drudge already declared that Mitt Romney would win both Alabama and Mississippi tonight. Won't happen in Alabama, and I'm hoping we can laugh at him about Mississippi as well.
On an unrelated note, Mississippi is my favorite state to type.
5:30 PM PT (David Nir): Don't forget: There are congressional primaries tonight in both AL & MS as well. The first votes are showing up in AL-05 (R), where turncoat ex-Dem Parker Griffith is trying to win his seat back from Rep. Mo Brooks.
5:31 PM PT (Jed Lewison):

5:34 PM PT (David Nir): And finally, after half an hour, votes start showing up in MS....
5:34 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): CNN reports that Romney gets 63 percent of the votes of people who think he's the strongest candidate. In other words, almost 40 percent of voters who think he's got the best chance of beating Obama hate him SO much, they'd rather take their chances of losing to Obama than have to vote for Mitt.
5:39 PM PT (David Nir): The first votes are showing up in MS-02 (D), where former Greenville mayor Heather McTeer is challenging veteran Rep. Bennie Thompson.
5:45 PM PT (David Nir): AL-01 (R) starting to report. There, Rep. Jo Bonner is facing a challenge from businessman Dean Young.
5:50 PM PT: Mitt Romney loves the south and its "cheesy grits" so much that he couldn't be bothered to spend an extra night in either Alabama or Mississippi. He's not bothering to have a rally to thank supporters, and he's spending the night in the anti-South ... NEW YORK CITY.
5:54 PM PT:
Every vote in the South is handmade and slow-roasted, dripping with barbeque sauce. #mmmmm

That would explain the vote-counting speed.
5:55 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): New thread here.
