Today is the day that everyone get to see the color explosion that has taken over my design wall. Before we get to the pictures I want to offer a big virtual hug to everyone who has contributed to this project. I wish I were a better writer so I could convey the sheer delight of having my husband walk in with another package from the mail. Even the boys who work for my husband are constantly checking to see the newest arrival. We have blocks from all over the country and even one quilter in Canada.
As some of you may know my health is not great. I've written a number of diary's going into detail for the KosAbility series. My current best understanding of the problem is that it results in a my nerves being hyperexcitable. It means that going out into the world overloads me, fast. I stopped doing any volunteer work after being the exhibits coordinator for the first Netroots Nation convention (YearlyKos) while helping my husband start a new business. Doing two full time jobs concurrently was the final straw, it forced me to accept my body was broken. I've learned that I can't participate in meetings of any sort. There are a number of great quilt groups in my area but if I go, even for a simple fun hour long meeting where I just sit and listen, the stimulus stops me from sleeping which quickly sends me into a tailspin of muscle contraction that can take weeks to undo.
What I'm trying to say is thank you all for giving me an opportunity to contribute in a way that doesn't break my body. I get a little bit flaky at times. If I don't respond for a few days don't worry I'm just overloaded, I'll be back.
And now for the stars of the show:
I think I'll post in the order they arrived so lets start with Pam from Calif
Next stoneboat sent in two blocks. Stoneboat is our Canadian quilter and the block feels very Canadian to me, seems like the right choice.
Nannyberry sent three blocks. I'm leaning to the block on top.
This block from glorificus is is sort of fishy, har har har (sorry.)
Can you believe this is the first quilt block that kitchen table activist has ever done?
vtgal sent an explosion of color.
This block says connections to me. It feels like a spontaneous representation of diversity in sweet understated fabric from Melanie in IA
leu2500's block sets the tune. If you look at the picture close up you can see the white fabric has music swirling around.
This one from Florene came in just last night.
Look what else Florene sent.
I love love love the little Kos flag man logo. Florene says that she hasn't done any embroidery for 10 years. Embroidery machines are common today but 10 years ago they were cutting edge.
I may try and use him as part of a label on the back. I just got a new printer. Now it isn't the perfect printer because the feed path isn't straight but it does use DURABrite Ultra Ink. If you didn't know the DURABrite Ultra Ink will print permanently on fabric. If I can figure out how it all works I'll make a label on the computer that list all the contributors to the project and print it out on fabric. I think the embroidery would look great as part of the label. I can't promise anything until I've done some testing.
I'm starting to get a handle on the fundraising aspect of our project but nothing is finalized yet so I will leave that discussion for the next update.
The deadline for block submission is coming up you have one more week. We have nine already and need three more to complete our quilt. Hurry up and get sewing. To each of you that have sent in a block reach over your shoulder and pat yourself on the back. Good job everyone.
Last but not least, send some good energy to our quilter BeadLady this week. Unfortunately in this day and age we first need to send a laser beam to cut through the insurance crap (I'm visualizing a form stamped approved) before we can move on to sending good energy geared towards a speedy recovery.
One last bit of eye candy, all the blocks pinned to the wall.
