Senator Bob Casey ("D") of Pennsylvania had himself a busy day yesterday, what with ignoring the shout out from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to join with other Democratic Senators to stand up for women's healthcare, and instead voting with Republicans for the Blunt Amendment.
That's mighty thirsty work!
So, what's a guy to do after such a long day? Go bar hopping, of course!
Last night, I got two invitations in my e-mail. Cute little flyers with green shamrocks, inviting me out bar-hopping on March 9th:

Now, let me tell you all about Finnegan's Wake, if you're not familiar with the Philadelphia bar scene. It's a great place. I don't remember several fabulous nights there from my own misspent youth, so I can personally vouch for it being one of the best and most beloved Irish Pubs in Center City Philadelphia.
That being said, our next stop is allllll the way out in Conshohocken. How we're planning to get in our cars and drive, in rush hour traffic on a Friday night leaving the city, up the Schuylkill Expressway (Rt. 76), and instantaneously arrive at the same time we left, I really don't know. Maybe we're having some kind of Senatorial car parade with the State Troopers clearing the lane for us! But we are going for our next stop to:

Now, as luck might have it, I have ALSO been to this location of
The American Pub - I know, what are the odds, right? Gradeschool "Facebook friends" reunion, 3 years ago! -
Always start with the Cheese Steak Spring Rolls. You're welcome. The Cobb Burger rocks hardcore, and the pitchers are ice-friggin'-cold, as I recall.
If I never say another good thing about Senator Bob Casey, he's got great taste in the local watering holes. Credit where due.
Now, about his voting record ... I think the guy I voted into office should be protecting my rights. If I'd wanted another Republican vote in the Senate, I would have voted Republican. I don't have Republican drinking buddies these days, not with the unemployment situation and the war on women's healthcare and rights being what it is. We need leaders who also understand what regular middle class folks are going through, and are serious enough about what's at stake to represent and protect us.
Unfortunately, I can't afford to take my message to Mr. Casey, because I'm 44 years old, unemployed for the past 10 months, and I don't have the money to pay for a babysitter for 4 hours, let alone $200 to be his "Friend" on his pub-crawl. Sorry. I don't have the money to pay for health insurance, or to get a cavity filled, let alone go out drinking on a Friday night.
And for some reason, I doubt very much that "my" Senator is going to be raising his glass to me in absentia.
