Here in Erie we have been rooting for and donating to the Kanzius Cancer Foundation for about 9 years. One of our own, John Kanzius, started the Foundation to finance and support his idea for cancer treatment using directed radio waves. The Kanzius Cancer Treatment Foundation held a press conference yesterday to make a big announcement. The trials on large animals have been a success.
Goerie has the details and an explanation of the treatment and the device used to kill the cancer cells. For a few years now we have been told that human trials are close. Finally that looks like it will be happening.
Dr. Steven Curely is the head researcher at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He and his team have gotten the treatment to the point where they attach antibodies to the nanoparticles that in turn hunt down the cancer cells. Then hit with radio waves they heat up and die. Here is the link to that info from KDKA.
John Kanzius owned a local radio station in Erie and became fascinated by other uses for radio waves during his work at the station. He died of cancer before his idea for treatment could be realized but he got the ball rolling and someday it will prove to be a success at treating cancer in a noninvasive and nontoxic manner. Some info on Kanzius, and here.
Many are worried that medical and pharmaceutical corporations will buy the technology and squash the innovations coming out of this work. I believe Mr. Kanzius has preempted this by setting up his foundation and going forward with his contacts at Pitt and Anderson without aid from anyone but private donations. Here in Erie we have regular fundraisers and many, many people are donating in their wills. The device is being produced here and that has raised our excitement and support even higher. We are ecstatic that this is going to work. The pride at being a small part of such a momentous achievement is in every person in Erie. We have worked, donated and worked some more, believing in success, urging success on. Cancer touches us all and we will continue our support for the Kanzius Cancer Foundation. Anyone wishing to donate can help here.
