By a vote of 61-54-2 the Illinois House passed marriage equality legislation. The bill will now go back to the Senate - due to a technical amendment - where quick passage is expected, then on to Governor Quinn who will sign the bill.
The legislation will not take effect until June, 2014. Hawaii and New Mexico could well have marriage equality as law before the Illinois statute takes effect.
See this diary published earlier today when it became apparent that the House would somewhat unexpectedly vote today for more details.

Illinois is a governor's signature away from becoming the 15th state to allow gay marriages.
The Illinois Senate followed the House in approving same-sex marriage. Gov. Pat Quinn, who was present for the vote, is expected to sign it into law.
