The fear and anger of the GOP is compelling them to continue their destructive turn to the right. It's time to just let them whiz on by to continue off whatever cliff they eventually drive themselves to while we turn to creating the positive political reality we desire.
They're not giving up. Well, we aren't giving up either and we have two special elections with excellent Democrats to enjoy focusing on right now. One is Ed Markey who is running for MA-Sen for John Kerry's seat (election June 25). The other is Elizabeth Colbert Busch (D) running against Republican ex-Gov Mark Sanford in the SC-01 special election being held next Tuesday, May 7.
The SC-01 special election is to replace South Carolina conservative Rep. Tim Scott, who was appointed by Gov. Haley to replace retiring Senator Jim DeMint. This House seat and Sen. Scott will both be up for reelection in 2014. This special election for his district will be a excellent opportunity to flex muscles and build Democratic voter commitment.
This district has been a GOP stronghold for 3 decades. Romney carried it by 18 points. But voters have indicated they are ready for a better representative. On April 22nd, PPP reported that Elizabeth held a 9 pt lead. A DCCC email today reports that they are neck and neck. What happened?
One reason is Dirty Tricks: Mysterious Conservative Group Sending Out Push Polls In South Carolina Special Election
...The questions they did ask ranged from outlandish smears to thinly-veiled Republican talking points. Here are some of the issues SSI brought up in various iterations of the push poll, according to those ThinkProgress spoke with:
- “What would you think of Elizabeth Colbert Busch if I told you she had had an abortion?”
- “What would you think of Elizabeth Colbert Busch if I told you a judge held her in contempt of court at her divorce proceedings?
- “What would you think of Elizabeth Colbert Busch if she had done jail time?”...
The GOP is up to the same dirty tricks they've used since Nixon. According to DCCC emails the Republican PACs are running scared, pouring money into ads to back Sanford.
Yet ANOTHER right-wing group is piling on Elizabeth Colbert Busch with vicious attacks.
She's proven her mettle in her campaign and
her debate with Sanford. She's tough.
This is our chance to make a difference and have her back. The election is only 4 days away. If each of us contributed just $3 or more we can send a powerful message and make a real difference in helping Elizabeth fund ads and expenses. There are two ways to help. Why not give a small amount to both right now?
