Author Richard L. Sanders published The Phoenix Conspiracy in writing in 2011. The audiobook version has now been released: The Phoenix Conspiracy can be found at Podiobooks.com for FREE. Narration is by Matthew Ebel, in a superb first audiobook performance. 16 serial episodes each last from 30 minutes to over 1 hour of listening time.
As Book 1 of the sci-fi mystery books The Phoenix Conspiracy Series (The Phoenix Conspiracy, The Phoenix Rising, and The Phoenix Crisis), this is suitable for late teens and older. There is no swearing in the story, but there are descriptions of military combat violence and/or deaths and prescription pills drug usage by some characters.

The Storyline
One of the Empire's spacefaring ships, the Imperial Starship (ISS) Phoenix went rogue and attacked a convoy of merchant ships without provocation (the Beotan Incident). The Phoenix and its Commanding Officer Raidan are now being escorted by other Imperial ships to dock at Praxis One, the closest government space station. Knowing his fate, Royal Imperial Navy Captain Asari Raidan leaves the bridge for one last opportunity to relax in his quarters before it happens. No surprise, he is sentenced to die for his crimes.
Lieutenant Commander Calvin Cross is the smart, attractive, 25-year-old Acting Captain of the Empire's stealth starship the Imperial Warship (IWS) Nighthawk, which helped track down and bring in the Phoenix. As part of the Intel Wing, his ship is used for intelligence gathering and as such a small cadre of Special Forces soldiers always travel aboard as it carries out its missions. And the mission now? Find the Harbinger, the huge dreadnought warship which was transporting Raidan to Capitol World for completion of his sentence.
In an act similar to the Beotan Incident, the Harbinger opened fire and destroyed its two escort ships for no reason and then jumped off into deep space. Calvin has to find the Harbinger and bring Raidan back to justice. So begins Calvin's chase adventure set among the stars. But between now and when he finally questions Raidan, Calvin will discover and uncover lots of information. Some of it may change his mind about following his last order. Calvin considers the impact on his crew and the soldiers as he makes the moves he believes are best.
