HENDERSON, N.C. — A Henderson homeowner defended himself against a home invasion Monday morning, shooting an intruder who kicked in his door.
This news event is actually of little import, the US is a large country, stuff happens all the time. What I hope makes this story unusual is that it's not of some poor little kid in a gun accident, or some dingbat getting angry and shooting someone. I often read of gun accidents or the misuse of a firearm on these pages.
Should we all start putting ARs under our beds incase some home invader breaks in? Probably not, or at least not based on this one story alone. Isolated events are just that, isolated events that happen somewhere in the US and make the news. Does this somehow mean guns are safe and a good means of protection? It tells us nothing, this is simply an isolated news item no different than the other news items I read posted to this web site about firearms. Does this story mean people use firearms to defend themselves more than to harm others? Absolutely not, but then neither do the many other anecdotal news items I read posted to this web site.
