Short and sweet.
Silence is complicity, so if you have a problem with guns being displayed in public, call the police when you see it happening.
I await the many comments explaining why this is a simple-minded and sophomoric action to take that Very Serious People should ignore.
Fits nicely onto a bumpersticker, too.
I thank everyone for their many thoughtful comments that have made this silly little diary worth recommending.
I could only have dared to hope that this good a conversation would arise.
(several hours pass...)
So I get back from my errands and find myself at the top of the Rec list? I shall now wade through 416 comments and hope to see why. I hope you all have been kind to one another while I have been gone.
I submit for your consideration the notion that the single common thread that binds both those opposed to guns and those opposed to regulating them is fear. Fear of what that man-with-a-gun could do, and fear of (presumably) what might happen to someone if they don't have a gun to "defend" themself.
Why do we choose to live our lives in fear?
